I have never watched a "realistic" movie that is so ridiculously unrealistic! It just boggles my mind! I'll get to why that is soon, but since this is a review, I'll start with the story. In fact, the production values are not half bad for a company produced movie, but that doesn't shake my "mixed bag" sort of feelings of this movie. If it had been an independent film, I would of rated it higher, since I would of respected it's production values more as the movie would of been harder to make. Mixed bag doesn't even describe it!įirst off, this movie wasn't THAT bad. Some themes in this movie are beyond all description !! And I think it's not a movie about ONE thing, only : it's a friendship movie a romance a movie about music.Īnd if the message is that there is something about us who guides us, it's not a "pseudo-mysticism" movie, for all that. We are very attached to those characters : the little prodigy of the music the guitarist, wasting his life with an other woman the cellist, who can't play anymore even the manipulator who just want to make money with children is captivating !Ĥ. Keri Russell and Robin Williams are very different but both are heart-moving, in a different way.ģ. Jonathan Rhys-Meyer is excellent, too, and he has a beautiful voice (perfect for the role). There is a brilliant cast : I considerate Freddie Highmore as one the best boy-actor. It's like a religion, everyone has the right to believe in what he choose to believe.Ģ. Someone believe that the music has a power, someone don't. ![]() It's not a matter of mysticism or things like that : it's a matter of faith. But a good story is rarely made of common events.ġ. It's a movie that really should be seen in the theater for the size and audience, and yet makes it impossible.I can't understand why this movie was received badly ! For me, it's definitively one of the best movies ever ! Yes, the plot is a little bit unlikely. What would have made a fine mini-series on television must be watched in one go in the movie theater, trapped between the gorgeous images, and the fact that every minute of screen time cuts two points off the IQ of DiCaprio's character. What could have been cut to a reasonable length without DiCaprio's army career and finding out that he lived in a trailer in his final years is left in, with only the audience's bladders telling them it's time to leave this story. Because the viewer at home will watch a movie like this at his leisure, taking time to go to the bath room, having a meal, and so forth, it's made for him. This is the upside and downside of companies like Amazon and Netflix having the wherewithal to tempt great film makers with large gobs of money. It goes on too long for a movie, at least for a movie without a break. At more than three hours before he wraps it up with a ten-minute epilogue, presented as an episode of Gangbusters talking about where everyone wound up spending the rest of their lives. ![]() I don't know what Thelma Schoonmaker, Scorsese's long-time editor, was doing. This being a Scorsese movie with a stellar cast, it is impeccably written, directed, and shot. They fall in love, and eventually have three children, while someone is busy killing off Osage Indians. ![]() After long, meandering talks with his uncle, Robert De Niro, Di Caprio runs a taxi, and picks up Lily Gladstone, a pure-blood Osage, and begins to drive her regularly. Leonardo Di Caprio returns from World War One to Oklahoma, where oil has made the Osage Indians rich.
